At Outwood Academy Danum Post 16 we continue to mature and prosper as now a stand alone Post 16 provider over one site for Year 12 bringing students an excellent experience whilst driving academic achievement through the outstanding support, care and guidance we extend to all students.

We understand the importance of the time young people spend with us knowing that it will help shape the rest of their lives. That is why our vision of ‘Students First; raising standards and transforming lives.’ will always be a guiding light in all that we do.

Regardless of background we will strive to provide students with the knowledge, skills and qualifications to make informed and developed choices by the time they leave us.

As students are completing Year 11 we will work with them to give them information and advice to help them to select the correct package of qualifications. That support will continue during transition. We have a dedicated learning manager; exceptional staff who care deeply about all young people and will support the well-being and pastoral needs during a period of significant change in the lives of young people. This support is extended through guidance groups (similar to form groups) where students will discuss and consider future options through extra curricular experiences and activities that will complement their academic studies. We will endeavour to help our students to take responsibility for their ambitions and begin to realise their long term goals.

We offer a broad and balanced curriculum with a range of level 3 qualifications including A levels, T Levels and Applied Qualifications with subject experts putting students at the centre of what they do. This was noted by Ofsted who stated that:

 “Sixth-form students are positive about their experience and feel well prepared for their future careers.” Ofsted May 2024.

“Pupils leave the school with qualifications that allow them to access higher education, training and employment. The curriculum gives pupils the best possible start in life.” Ofsted report - May 2024 

“Sixth-form students are taught in small groups and value the one to-one support they receive from teachers.”

We will work with students to instil confidence through developing their academic independence as we report back to them regularly on how they are doing and more crucially what they would need to do to improve and progress further. We are fully inclusive and focus on each student as an individual, tailoring what we do specifically to their unique aspirations, strengths and needs. We are confident in what we offer and know that we can support and improve the life chances of young people.

Ofsted recognise that pupils leave the school with qualifications that allow them to access higher education, training and employment. However, we are also very proud of our dedication to help students develop broader skill sets through our new Outwood + enrichment programme. Working side by side with expert career advice and supportive staff mentors, we ensure that all students who attend our provision develop a comprehensive personal development portfolio. This allows our pupils to go onto their next stage with confidence, be it in further education or in the world of work. Indeed, many of our students secured great places at universities across the country, and indeed in the competitive apprenticeship arena. We are proud that Ofsted recognised we are an inclusive school where pupils of every background are provided with the opportunities they need to be successful.
